Quest To Find The UK’s Kindest City Is Underway!
#Kind20 has launched a nationwide challenge to find the Kindest City in the United Kingdom and has invited the councils of 70 cities across Britain to take up the challenge.
The six-month campaign, which officially began on July 1st, encourages communities to take part by promoting the spread of acts of kindness in order to raise spirits in the wake of the despair and chaos caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
#Kind20 began the process by writing to the mayors, lord mayors and provosts of all 70 cities inviting them to support the initiative. Within days, cities spread across the whole of the UK responded to confirm their formal support and began encouraging residents, workers and young people to submit details of, or thanks for, an act of kindness which has been performed in a community of their city. To register their ‘vote’ these posts must be uploaded to the #Kind20 Facebook page.
#KIND20 will keep a running total of the posts and will publish a monthly league of each city’s number of kindnesses, with the final count published at the start of January 2021. As some cities are bigger than others, #KIND20 will calibrate population size into the pro rata calculations to ensure overall fairness. At the end of the year, the number of posts will be totalled and the name of Britain’s Kindest City will be announced and an award presented to the winner.
The full list of cities is: Aberdeen, Armagh, Bangor, Bath, Belfast, Birmingham, Bradford, Brighton & Hove, Bristol, Cambridge, Canterbury, Cardiff, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Chester, Chichester, Coventry, Derby, Londonderry/Derry, Dundee, Durham, Edinburgh, Ely, Exeter, Glasgow, Gloucester, Hereford, Inverness, Kingston upon Hull, Lancaster, Leeds, Leicester, Lichfield, Lincoln, Lisburn, Liverpool, City of London, Greater London, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Newport, Newry, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Perth, Peterborough, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Preston, Ripon, St Albans, St Asaph, St Davids, Salford, Salisbury, Sheffield, Southampton, Stirling, Stoke on Trent, Sunderland, Swansea, Truro, Wakefield, Wells, Westminster, Winchester, Wolverhampton, Worcester and York.
